Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a proclamation declaring November 3rd as Fuel Up to Play 60 Day in Kansas at a celebratory school assembly at Wilbur Middle School in Wichita. Wilbur Middle School has been committed to the Fuel Up to Play 60 program since 2009. The program is led by Wilbur P.E. Teacher and Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor of the Year, Carri Flores, who was honored at the event. Joining in the celebration and pledging their support to Fuel Up to Play 60 was Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Dale Rodman and Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Diane DeBacker. Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Eddie Kennison spoke to the students about the importance of staying fit and joined Governor Brownback in a push-up contest. Chiefs mascot KC Wolf added to the celebration, giving the Governor the high five when he signed the proclamation. Dairy farmers Steve Strickler from Iola, Kan. and Curtis Steenbock from Longford, Kan. helped to lead a milk toast honoring the day and their more than 95-year commitment to child nutrition.
