Iowa Governor Branstand and Lt. Governor Reynolds Pledge Commitment to Fuel Up to Play 60 at Capitol View Elementary

Midwest Dairy is excited to share that Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, along with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, Director of the Department of Education Dr. Jason Glass and Director of the Department of Public Health Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, have all pledged their commitment to the Fuel Up to Play 60 movement at a special celebration event at Capitol View Elementary in Des Moines. Capitol View 4th grade student Walter Amaya talked about what it means to be healthy, and former Kansas City Chiefs player Eddie Kennison inspired the students and others in the audience to lead healthy, active lives and led them in some stretches. Chiefs mascot KC Wolf and Iowa State University mascot Cy joined in the fun. Dairy farmer Jason Brockhaus from Ocheyedan capped off the event with a special milk toast saluting the tremendous public and private partners in their commitment to child health and wellness.
“Fuel Up to Play 60 will play a key role in helping achieve our goal of making Iowa the healthiest state in the nation,” Governor Branstad said. “The program sets our schoolchildren up for success by providing healthy food choices and encouraging exercise or play for at least 60 minutes every day.”
Lieutenant Governor Reynolds spoke about impact the program will have on future generations. “The children in our state are the future of Iowa. I’m thankful that Fuel Up to Play 60 teaches healthy habits that will help improve the quality of their lives in years to come.” Learn more here.
