Ankeny Schools Kick Off Fuel Up to Play 60 Efforts with Start Somewhere Walk

More than 200 students from Terrace Elementary and Parkview Middle School in Ankeny, Iowa joined together with teachers, administrators, the Ankeny Mayor, city staff and community members in a 1k “Start Somewhere Walk” as part of Governor Terry Branstad’s Healthiest State Initiative, a statewide community- and business-led effort to engage Iowans in improving their overall health and well-being.  The schools also used this as a way to kick off their participation in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. The students have taken the pledge to eat healthier and get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Check out this video of their commitment to the program.
“It’s a great way to help students learn the importance of nutrition and physical activity, which in turn, will help them be healthier adults while having fun at the same time,” says Lynn Swinger, Nutrition and Wellness Coordinator for the Ankeny Community School District.
Don’t miss out on the fun and have your school take the Fuel Up to Play 60 pledge to “Eat Healthy. Get Active and Make a Difference” today. Learn more.
